but does anyone else think that ott’s production is now on the same level as shpongle?
i personally think he is a superior musician, but to me, the quality of his production is now amongst the best there is.
i finally got to listen to it properly on the weekend (i.e. on acid), and it was one of the best listening experiences i’ve ever had. the vocals throughout the album (except aubergine, i’m still iffy about the start of that track) are simply phenomenal - i especially love the male vocals on squirrel and biscuit.. it’s hilarious trying to sing along.

I’ve almost always thought, with the smooooooooth smooth bass lines, the intricate tweaking and EQ, and the unbelievably-defined beats, that Ott’s production has been, dare I say, BETTER than Shpongle…can’t really decide.
They’re both my favorite.
Anyhow, I just can’t get over the amazingness of Owl Stretching Time. Those synth swells in the start just totally take me to a place unknown of anyone ever, including myself. So so so cool. And when the wompy bass comes in, ... oh man.
on the intro to mouse eating cheese - i don’t know if you guys listen to progressive, but it reminds me of the intro to solid snake’s unleashed. this track is probably my favourite. love the fat bass and the drum roll / transitions. in fact the drum rolls are great throughout the album.
In the meantime I’m streaming it via his bandcamp. As soon as I will have the CD and will listen to it properly a number of times, I will start working on my review.
Im really suprised though that the reviewer Damion thought Skylon was bad??, I thought is was better than Ott’s first album this is from the front page:
‘One of the reasons psyreviews sort of drifted off a couple of years back is that I was presented with a review copy of an album I thought was disappointing by somebody I thought was totally awesome, and I didn’t want to have to say something bad about it.
That person has a new album out now so I suppose it’s time to say: Skylon was gash, but Mir is gear’.

I guess it’s just a matter of opinion.
Well, in my opinion “Skylon” is a brilliant album.

I couldn’t compare Blumenkraft, Skylon or Mir. They are all 10/10 for me. Too many great things about each album to say one is better than the other.
Favorite track from Mir is Owl Stretching Time, so dark and the way he integrated that vocal sample is amazing. Had to pick my jaw up off the floor the first time I heard it.
Mouse Eating Cheese is the most Shpongle-like track I’ve heard from Ott, second favorite on this album.

Wow. How ridiculous that he would basically shut down the entire site because he had a few negative things to say about one album. That’s his job!
Either way, glad to see the site back around!
Anyhow, I plan to write up and post my own review within the next few days. Mir is a 10/10 for me
Great interview… a nice little excerpt:
“Sparkleberry: How do you think we can use music as a solution to worldly problems rather than an escape from them?
Ott: ...If everyone stopped being a dick we’d find ourselves living in an earthly paradise and while I’m not sure how music might be employed to bring about that happy state of affairs it is nice to have something to listen to while I’m waiting.”
It’s great without a doubt, but there’s two tracks i really don’t like - One Day… and Nice Little Place. First things first - I’m not a fan of reggae/dub at all, and the first track is way too much into the classic dub direction for my tastes. Might be Ott’s dubbiest track yet.. any opinion on that? Nice Little Place is just… i dunno, boring. I’m a fan of ambient music and it’s not a bad piece at all, it just can’t keep my interest throughout its run. I’m sure i would have loved it back when i was a regular weed smoker, lol.
The rest though, is phenomenal. Adrift In Hilbert Space is my favorite track, and prolly Ott’s best track yet. The glitchy part towards the end is just mindblowing, i love shit like that. The other tracks, are great too. I don’t mind the slight dubstep influences, Ott did a great job including them into his style. Thankfully he didn’t make the mistake of making a pure dubstep album, like the new Phutureprimitive (god that albums sucks).
So anyway, yeah that’s my opinion. It’s my favorite Ott yet. His previous albums both had just a couple tracks i really like, this time it’s 5 of 7. I’m just not into dub, sorry bros (and Ott).
