I don’t know Simon personally, and I don’t know enough about electronic music to be able to ask geeky “how did you do that?” questions… so I’m pretty sure I’d just say “Thanks for all the cool music dude, its been a good companion on some interesting experiences!” and maybe “MORE SHPONGLE!!!” haha. Mostly though, just thanks!

I don’t think you have to ask this one…it’s obvious!!!!
Simon - and of course everyone else in Twisted - discuss through the net with all of us strange-rs(!)... you can understand that they are not smug at all like other so called “great” artists…
Of course we have to be able not to cross the line as we should do with every person we meet right?
We met Simon and Benji in Sonica and they of course had no problem to chat with us for a couple of minutes. They are both GREAT!! You should see Simon in the foto we got together (he is like that :o - LOL) and you ‘ll realize that they are just like you and me, but also unique…!
That’s my opinion man…
Cheers!!

I did exactly that. I got to meet simon during sound check, although I am a bisco fan of ten years, I left the second set early so I could be in the front row for shpongle and YB. Simon actually asked for requests, which was awesome I asked for Star Shpongled Banner (mispronounced it star Shpangled Bonner) and he said he’d get to it. Of course, then I asked for Around the world in a Tea Daze, which he had played in between bisco sets. So it’s probably better that you didn’t talk to him, because I fucked it up. I gave him one of my “deamsters” t-shirts that I designed, which was cool….I guess. SInce none of those deadbeat hippies would buy one from me. bastards. anyone, thanks Simon, you scrambled my brain yet again.

Well, the two times that I’ve been to a Hallucinogen/Shpongle event I made it a point to get up on stage and shake Simon’s hand.

The first was when he was setting up his gear.. “Hey! Simon! I love your work man!” and then shook his hand.  Simon seeemed a bit disoriented when I did this; eh oh well.

The second time was when he was finished with Hallucinogen and was getting ready for his Shpongle set, and I was ready to leave the club.  I was really drunk at this event, so I think I said something like “Good job man!” and shook his hand.  He didn’t seem to mind this time and had a big grin on his face.

Anyway, I don’t think too many artists/bands care too much about their fan-base talking to them.  The big issue is the security guards, and how they feel about the whole thing.

I think it’s cool that artists are approachable, my only concern is that if I saw him at the 10th birthday gig I may go on automatic pilot and ask when the next Hallucinogen album was being released which I think would do his head in!!

the best way to deal with you favorite artist is to pretend you don’t even recognise him.  just have a chat like he’s anyone else.  Try to resist gushing… there’s only so many times you can be told you changed someone’s life before it gets tedious and a bit weird.

know what i mean?
