Just started tweaking around in Reason…enjoying it so far.
Very simple and straightforward program, hasn’t crashed once yet. LOL

Hope you don’t mind answering a quick question.

I was wondering how you export/move your compositions from Reason into Nuendo.
Do you do a rewire and just record each reason track’s midi/audio in one swoop?
Or is there another way you do it?
I assume the same thing could be done from reason to Live?

Just trying to wrap my head around this kind of workflow…

I export each part as a stereo file and drag them into a new Nuendo arrangement. I tend to bounce things together as I like to preserve the relationships between things. For example, I may have four or five different hi-hat sounds going in Reason which I will bounce out as a stereo file with fx and panning.

‘Mouse Eating Cheese’ from ‘Mir’ was only seven stereo bounces.

Don’t hold your breath - I’ve been using it since v1.0 and it has NEVER crashed.

Ever.

So… For your hardware synths,
do you program the lines in reason for the sake of composition, then replicate them in the hardware once you’re in nuendo?

Would you also pre-program your recorded percussion parts (shakers, bongos, etc) in reason first…
or just handle all of that strictly in nuendo?

I never demo anything. I wouldn’t see the point in replacing a part just for the sake of doing it on something more expensive. It either works or it doesn’t.

My approach is to throw shit at a wall and keep what sticks.

Well…your shit throwing has me pretty wowed.
The approach is very different from what I’m used to.

but you know what they say:
“Give a thousand monkeys a billion years to throw shit at a wall…
and they will eventually recreate the entire works of… [insert crazy British guy’s name here]”

Thanks for sharing your insight. Much appreciated.

Yeah. Nice to be able to record audio but the mixer EQ and comps sound a bit shonky. Wasn’t impressed.

Yes CW I wanted to say it too. I’m using Reason and I don’t want that to be combined with Record, and there is no choice with the next version of Reason… I’m now trying to get my hand on Reason 5 in rewire with Logic Express 9, I don’t think I’ll upgrade to Reason 6 anyway… What about Ott, as your a Reason user since v1, are you going to do the upgrade to Reason 6?

Well….I just can’t do it.
Gave it 2 months of solid effort…learned the interface and workflow inside and out…
but Reason just isn’t for me.

The Reason workflow doesn’t seem to coincide with how I like to work as an artist.
Feels slow and clunky to wire-up the rack with all the desired effects…and editing in the sequencer feels tedious.
Most of all, I just can’t get anything to SOUND the way I want it to.
(oh and…not being able to record audio is an absolute boner-killer…)

The strong points are it’s stability. Never crashed once (and I was pushing it pretty hard).
I can also see how this program would also be PERFECT for a beginner to start making music.
All the basic tools are there and self-contained. Simple and straightforward.

Ott, I don’t know how you do it man… but it has me baffled.
Were the basses in Mir (Hilber Space, Owl Stretching, etc) all made with thor?
It’s a goddamn miracle if you did…dunno how you got them sounding that massive and wobbly.

Gonna peep out Reaper next. There seems to be quite a heavy buzz of excitement over it amongst the studiophiles.

Hey Cloudwalker, what software do you normally use?

I’m about to embark on a similar journey so I don’t want to go down the wrong rabbit hole…
