Hey Cloudwalker, what software do you normally use?
I’m about to embark on a similar journey so I don’t want to go down the wrong rabbit hole…
Ableton Live.
The workflow works wonders for me. Love this program.
It just crashes…a lot…especially when I approach finishing large projects.
My ram gets maxed out…the cpu is nearly on fire…and live doesn’t seem to like that too much.
This could probably be solved simply by shifting my workflow, and bouncing tracks more often.
Another likely problem is buggy (freeware and warez) vsts.
I just bought a new harddrive…fresh new install of everything…
and I cut down to just the few bare-essential plugins that I use the most.
Hopefully things will be a bit more stable now.
To answer your question; Give Reason a try. It’s got everything you need to get started.
Also give Live a try. The learning curve is higher (and stability lower), but you can do more with it.
See what you like, and what works best for you.
Can’t comment on Reaper, as I haven’t dived into it yet. Stay tuned…
