Same here about facebook, not much interesting things to read and difficult to have a proper interaction with anyone. Signal to noise ratio, way to small definitely!! smile

Beside, the amount of activity here seems to be highly related to the amount of releases. The more releases, the more activity! though it’s true that it’s been kinda dead for a couple months around here.

On the other hand i have absolutely no idea how much does it cost to run this forum…It would certainly be a shame to me if it had to be closed.

another comparsion just popped up: Facebook is like the (mainstage) dancefloor: fun to dance with a lot of complete strangers… and here is the chai-tent where you get to know some of them. wink

Pah! You Facebook haters! LOL…. I used to hate it, but have actually got really into it recently on the shpongle page i admin https://www.facebook.com/shpongle?sk=wall&filter=2
I have made many friends and we talk about all kinds of shit from numbers, science, jokes to haemmorhoids… it’s not as bad as you think… and i hope the CIA are reading it - they might pick up a few tips!
I feel it’s actually harder to get to know people here, because of the clunky interface… hopefully we will address that soon enough… watch this space.

It’s not even about the cost of the server space… it’s not that much, and with the CDs you regulars have bought it probably covers it - i honestly have no idea.  I guess the truth of the matter is that i got sick of reading how each of my new albums sucked in one way or another, or that i should stop making any more music… nobody ever engaged me in a conversation about creationism vs evolution, or the beauty of repeating numbers… it’s generally “your new album isn’t what i think it should be”, or “your new album’s amazing” (more of that please! LOL) or what plug-ins/software/production techniques do you use…
Since there are so many musicians on here (or were) , there also seemed a slightly jealous / aggro vibe which turned me off for a while… i dunno, i just found myself getting irritated more and more frequently when i came here…. people getting pissed if i didn’t reply… or more pissed if i did!
Of course i made “virtual friends” here too… Cloudwalker, Slamminsalmon, Electrobot, Ray, Digitalex, Jahful etc….. to name a few… and Ott’s posts are always entertaining or hilarious…. but i actually feel it’s harder to get to know people here than the friends i’ve made on facebook…
So i still check-in occasionally… of course i love Twisted - it’s my label, after all… and we have no intention of closing… i guess i will just stay away from here whenever we release a new record… nobody really likes criticism, even if we pretend to be “right on” and politically correct and say we do…. the fact is i work my fucking arse off for every album i make, and this is my home, and if i walked into your house and you made me dinner i would never say to you “Your pasta is gross… why didn’t you cook lobster?” i would say “Mmmm thank you so much!” and start a conversation about something fun and try to make you laugh…. we could get into a heated debate, but it wouldn’t be about how shit your cooking is, or why i shouldn’t have paid for the wine - you should provide it for free….
Sometimes i’ll have a moan, and i like support from my friends…. not sycophancy, just friendly support like any of my mates would give… and if someone kept giving me shit in real life, i’d stay away from them… you’ve read the desiderata - “avoid people who are vexatious to the spirit”....
I disagree with the post of someone that said more people here have been to shows than on facebook…. plenty of people there have been to many shows…and post pics too…
I’m not looking for arse-licking… just people who are fun, filled with love, and get what i do… i imagined that here would be the most likely place i would find them, so i guess it was here that i was most disappointed when i didn’t….
Anyway, now most of the trolls have apparently disappeared, i thought i’d say “Hi” again…. and check on the poll…. bit sad about the low numbers…. but oh well… and who voted to kill off the forum? It wasn’t me - i promise! raspberry
Don’t be shy to check out facebook it’s horrible at first, but you can grow to love it and appreciate the good points….. a bit like the last Younger Brother album really…. :D
I’m going on holiday now….back in a few weeks….. byeeeeeee xxxx

Well then…let’s make this place more interesting.  Shall we? cheese

Seems like this place started to die a bit after the…uhhhh….“ineffable critisism incident”...
If you’re hanging around though, things might be alright.
I’ll start posting more around here too.

Ever thought of posting ‘mini tutorials’, or something along those lines?
“How to make this shpongley sound”
Would make a nice post…and great discussion.

I’m still interested in that email thing I mentioned earlier, if you’re down with it too.

Hi Simon,

First of all, I can’t really disagree with your point of view. Facebook is really dynamic, people spend a lot of time on there, of course you will be able to more easily connect with fans. So I wouldn’t be surprised or disappointed if the forum was shut down.

But, I honestly don’t think you can have meaningful discussions on facebook. Partly because there are so many people on there, partly because it’s not a forum format, what you get are conversations that are incredibly fleeting. Of course you can have a lot of fun on there, I mean fuck I couldn’t stop laughing during you haemmorhoids session while you were in the US, but I missed the conversation by 1 hour and that meant that I’d already missed the boat.

Also, I don’t think you ever spent enough time on here to go into creationism or anything like that, but then again I haven’t been on this forum for all that long. I guarantee you that most people on here would love to talk to you about random crap if they had the chance.

As to all the criticism, I agree that some of it was over the top, but I think your reaction to it says more about your insecurities than about the criticism itself. These people keep buying everything that you produce, even if they complain about aspects of it, so they are in a sense your biggest fans. Surely their criticism should only push you to strive to shut them up? Although I do agree that some people got extremely aggressive, those people weren’t really ‘regulars.’ They came here specifically to express their dissatisfaction, which I too find is pretty sad and petty.

I think the happiest medium would be if you guys could set up a forum that lets people login with their facebook accounts, that way you could get a better idea of who ‘we’ are and actually relate it to the people who post on your wall. This way you could still have an area where you can have more in-depth discussions with fans.

Anyway, we still love you (well I do, at least), so we’ll let you decide how to run your manor. raspberry

666! Simon, this one’s for you buddy: the first public look anywhere of my cartouche series!

Anyway, like flavius says, it’s YOUR house, it’s NOT the Model UN, give the mods more direction and authority to boot people out for being little b!tches! (Or warn them). As well as the people who whine about fascistic mods. They can start their own forum, a forum which sucks! Having a “report post” button might also be a good idea. We are all adults, or very mature teenagers at least, and we know what the difference is between constructive criticism and well, the colossal sh!t geyser revenant was spewing a few years ago for example.

Si, we love to see you on here, and Benji and Ott, it makes you guys so human to us and we’d feel the same way if people were dissing our heartfelt efforts. But you gotta know, your output will still be enjoyed and admired long after we’re all interred. The little yappers are just bits of dust that you should blow off.

Regarding the wealth of Twisted scholarship on this forum, check out Gnome Doser and flavius trying to identify every last little sound in the Prometheus Ozora set…

I say nay.

Ever since I’ve registered, this forum is one of the rare places I visit a couple of times every single day, and although I don’t post much (kinda forum-lurker, I am) I’ve found out that this is the place for hard-core Twistedeers, many of whom are intelligent and very creative people (just like the artists of Twisted Rec). And most of them don’t have Facebook accounts, so it would be a definite loss, not to be able to gain insight into their thoughts, opinions, suggestions, etc.

This forum has never been as active as other forums but it is free of all the piles of gibberish other forums are full of. As someone said - quality>quantity. And who knows, maybe forums are a dying breed with all the social networks running amok the internet but I hold everything concerning this one dear to my heart and would like it to be operational as long as it can (or perhaps I’m over-idealistic).

As far as I’ve noticed Mr. S, you’ve grown accustomed to using FB. Sure, it’s practical, many fans can follow and connect with you and read the updates, your thoughts and comments and reply to them, but as many here have pointed out out of 315 comments 300 are “when will you come to *insert town/city/state/continent/planet*, lol, great, rofl, “... and when I see a bunch of replies I lose every hint of desire to read through them, even those written by you.

And I haven’t seen Benji or Ott being active on FB as much as here (although it is seldomly)...

Dunno…Are we, the fans who want the forum to be still operational old-fashioned? Or we see this forum as the best way not only to communicate with you artists but with each other also.

Anyways, as flavius said, you’ll decide how to run your manor…

Best regards, enjoy your vacation!

Nice One Jahful - are you a graphic designer? I love hieroglyphs….. Those Egyptians were onto something… maybe we should disable text on the forum, and communicate only in pics/hieroglyphs :D that would spice things up!

Hey Si, great meeting you at OZORA cheese (was better than any trip at that moment)

I think Facebook is good, but I use more to keep up with people I know or meet at parties/go party with. Met BrainStorm in Thailand, asked if anyone from here was going there. Should I try that on Facebook? Wouldn’t be so close to them like here!

I think more artist activity here would be good and maybe promote the site more, so the real twisted fans from Facebook join this forum. Maybe we should start more of those interesting discussions here.

I don’t write a lot, but check what’s new pretty often. What’s missing is that many people can’t seem to register. I think more should be able to register, but the mods need permission to delete a user, especially if he’s spamming and I have to delete the threads on after another smile

Not sure, but are you using captchas? That’d be a good start to stop spammers. A confirmation mail before the account gets activated also makes sense, if that ain’t the case.

Enough on the development part smile

Was at 3 of your gigs within 1 year. Went to London for one day to see you at the Halcyon Warehouse gig.

Enjoy your vacation!!! Mine was at OZORA wink

And so many I see that were at OZORA all say how amazing the set was from you and Raj. Keep it up.

I second that you could show some tutorials and tricks. I love psy/goa, but have no idea how to even start a Logic Pro song that should be psyish. Also don’t know of any good tutorials.

speaking of numbers….

tool has a song called lateralus that uses the fibonacci series to write the song. it’s interesting to me how they incorporate something like this into the music (i’m not a musician, but rather a mathematician, so i find it hard to comprehend how the process of composing a song like this would take place). it’s not a complicated series by any means, but cool nonetheless. i posted a link below….

also, what’s the deal with infinity? i would love to see what you have to say about it or your explanation of what infinity means to you

I know what you mean about the difficulties in the system making it hard to connect Si.  I made what I thought was a very cool thread that would spark some very interesting conversation, especially if you resonded to it.  It was called “The Fractal Geometry of Counsiousness in Nothing Lasts but Nothing is Lost”.  I recently did a little research on fractals and repeating numbers and had the epiphony that the concept is very similar to the concepts in Nothing Lasts but Nothing is lost.  The thread was sadly deleted after only 4 responses due to a server error or something, admin said it would come back but I dont see it yet.  I tried to send you a pm about it hoping to talk you into responding to the thread because I would love to hear what you have to say about it,  but I dont think the pm went thru.  I might try again later if the thread is not recovered.

Tapioka: i respectfully disagree with your opinion that its easy to run out of things to talk about.  Personally I could disuss the deeper meanings of this music forever, especially with real fans that understand the music and the concepts behind it. And if the artists (or shamans as i consider them, especially Si and Raj) have the time to personally respond to some of these conversations, that is awesome i couldnt ask for anything more.  I find the beauty of this music, Shpongle in particular, infitite.  And with every answer it seems more and more questions arise.

In “The doors of perception” the author, Aldous Huxley, talks about how the mind is the last frontier. The idea that the mind can take you anywhere, you just have to learn to train and control it; at times, a difficult task. There are obviously many meanings in the songs, but the beauty is the fact that we can discuss their meanings infinitely here (so long as the forum lives on!) and learn new things every day through talking with people on here that are twisted followers. the like-mindedness of the people gathered here is unique and on a very aware and enlightened level, one of several reasons i joined

and i agree with what someone said above, this is one of the ONLY sites i check on a regular basis, several times a day even just to see what’s going on and if there’s anything fun happening here
