Hey guys,

Check out this psybient track of mine. I made it two years ago on a very shitty sequencer(jeskola buzz), I’m thinking about reediting it on ableton cause i still like most of ideas in it, and i believe it has potential.

But what do you guys think about it??!

That soft is a real nightmare smile , check out that old looking win3.1 interface grin it’s indeed some hybrid tracker with softsynth and FX as well.

Thanx for the very nice comments and constructive criticisms wink I actually agree with those, it’s true the high ends are way too high, same for that sound at the end you’re talking about. That mix definitely needs a full work out anyway smile I made music from 14 to 19 years old and I started again about two years ago, so it’s not too far wink

Although you can make good things with jeskola buzz it’s true, a lot of editing is like a profound pain in the ass, most of the time. Its main advantages over other sequencers though is the incredible library of free and original effects and synth, coded by open-source-activists nerds spread around the globe grin Still now that I’ve tried ableton live, i can pretty much do everything I did with buzz but MUCH more easily, without mentioning the recording abilities + automation and everything, I can basically do MUCH more than I could ever had done with buzz, so that pretty much sums it up smile But I still agree with what you say in some ways, that limitations can be a spark for creativity.
As an example of that, james holden composed his album idiots are wining on jeskola buzz, so it cannot be that bad smile

The potential and ideas are definitly worth a rebuild.

Beyond what was said above (resonate string emulation has to much highs), I like the overall arrangement. It keeps morphing into something else. Like an intro of an intro of an… grin Nice samples and message. Around 2:15 and 3:50 and a few other occasions I would try to shorten things a bit, and try to bring the thing down to about 6 or 7 minutes. And only push for > 10 minutes if something drasticly strange, epic and/or different comes along. (Like after the break at 6:13 for instance imagine some epic orchestra that interrupts things a bit) Love the sounds in the 5th minute!

‘Karma Bubble’ is a great mix of all the ‘goodies’ of PsyTrance. Very funny sample, lol! tongue laugh

Yeah, I always get stuck in the same pattern actually smile I can’t just make a song exploring one or a couple of ideas. I guess that’s how I am, and i can’t change it cool smile

That’s another problem I have with music smile But you’re right I could shorten it up a bit.

it’s mostly beyond me - but have you played with http://supercollider.sourceforge.net/

another open source project - really tricky programming style inputs - but some reviews rate the possible outputs as better / more interesting than any other software/hardware source

the only progress i’ve made is finding some really short code sections for it written by other people and then changing parameters - but it is possible to stumble into some super bizarre sounds - maybe it’s more to make noises with and then re-sample / process in a DAW but anyway it’s worth a look if you speak computer

The audio samples sound incredible, You should suggest that to mr. Posford smile . For my part, unless there were 28 hours a day or if I had a degree in IT I don’t think I could find the courage to dive into this smile But it looks like the ultimate IDM tool :-p

- just passing by to say that i’m still reeling a bit from a moment in one of your psy tracks - it sounds to me like you make a sound rotate in the soundfield - except that it has some sort of slightly irregular gate? so it’s like from a visual perspective this sound is blinking as it’s swung round on the end of a rope at the centre - and then! - somehow you change the rate the sound rotates but at the same time tweak the pattern of syncopated blinks - so that the whole thing stays in tempo and then it all sort of unwinds and shimmers away.  i have absolutely no idea how that’s even a possible thing to do with sound!

if you get a chance can you repost when you have some music for sale please : )

Wow, I didn’t know I had super powers like this cool smile I just hope I didn’t do that by mistake wink No but seriously in what song, and at what time? What you’re describing sounds really cool smile
