I joined the Muslim student association tonight as they broke their fast. We ate chicken briyana and baba ganoush among several other dishes. Delicious!

we’re having an ital breakfast! Everything is prepared from whole natural ingredients in our home! It does include coffee- and bread and peanut butter and bananas.

Had some refrigerator stew, and some Black India-Assam tea.  Let’s see… I think there was broccoli, potatoes, rice, cheese, quinoa, then topped with bbq sauce.  The things that get cooked in a bachelor house are hilarious.  I need a girlfriend who can cook lol.

For the Indian food nothing beat making your spice mix from scratch, and who wouldn’t love that? All you need is a little coffee grinder! Then you can tweak the spices to your liking: warning- your house will smell like curry. You need:
(first the garam masala)
cumin X 2
coriander X 2
cardamom seeds
cloves
peppercorns
cinnamon
nutmeg
(add this to yogourt and mango and brown sugar, voila it’s lassi, a bit to black tea and voila chai!)
To the garam masala X 2 add in
turmeric (this one you’ll probably have to buy powdered) X 2
fenugreek (about 20 little guys, very hard and tough to grind so you need a machine <this is the “curry” fragrance but you just use a bit)
chilis
fennel seeds
These parts can be adjusted to taste, and you can also add more of whichever garam masala ingredients you like.

And fry them in ghee or butter or sunflower oil before you add your onions and veg.

quinoa is awesome!  apart from a box, do you have any idea where it comes from?

frank zappa in fine form on an interview via nubient tv - http://www.youtube.com/user/nubient?blend=6&ob=5#p/f/54/8ISil7IHzxc

i hear you too about bachelor pad.  i’m a shocker at cooking for myself but i really like trying to cook for other people.  i have half a plan to teach myself how to make beginner proper indian food & also how to bake bread.  i reckon that could be a deal winner next time i’m in the wooing game : )

The Quinoa was bought at the local Whole Foods (here in northern California), so I’m assuming they just get it from whatever local person is harvesting it smile

Zappa did us Americans a marvelous favor by fighting with the government back when they were debating on what sort of music can be sold in the US.  US government deciding what I can and cannot buy?? NO THANK YOU! I’ll take a parental advisory sticker, thanks.

And YES! Cooking will help win over some ladies indeed.  Especially, since these days less and less women are capable of cooking themselves (at least lately that has been my experience lol).  Unfortunately, my cooking is not up to that standard.  I did, however, work at a catering place and learned a thing or 2.  I can make one sexy ass fruit platter!

actually the orange crowns are pretty easy after you do it a couple times.  Basically you just take a big knife and stick it half way through the orange at a 45 degree slant in one direction, then do a connecting slant in another 45 degree (the other way) to make a VVVVVVV.  Repeat around the orange til you’ve connected the diagnal ups and downs then pull it apart.  VOILA!

lol @ that video.  home grown spaghetti hahaah.  Honestly I have no idea how quinoa is grown or whatever.. gotta take specialty botany courses to learn about that stuff! All I know is they are some small grain that I can cook with a ton of stuff that is healthy for me and tastes good! smile

atnt-sf - 01 September 2011 09:50 PM

can you have a pet quinoa plant?  what sort of music do they like to listen to for optimum twirl?

I’ll leave that one for the botany expert lol
