Speaking of new albums, Ultimae Records has recently released the debut LP from Hol Baumann called ‘Human’, who has appeared on nearly every one of their compilations.  I haven’t heard it but I expect it’s the typical Ultimae style.

Some more good ones…

Orchid Star - Birth/Re-birth = This latest release on Liquid Sound Design showcases a very acoustic, melodic and trancey part of psychill.  Bright guitars and vocal samples are abound in this release.  Recommended for fans of Ott, Umberloid, Kaya Project.

Easily Embarrassed - Idyllic Life = These newcomers try their hand at their own flavor of trippy chillout music, and the result is surprisingly original.  It’s best described as a mixture of dubby psychill and good Berliner School sequencer music.  Definitely worth checking out.

Uzect Plaush - More Beautiful Human Life! = This is a gem from 1994, produced by the ambient pioneer Paul Schutze using a one-off pseudonym.  Don’t let the date fool you - this disc is a mesmerizing mix of rhythmic electronics, tribal drumming and textural ambience.  The fact that the album is now nearly 15 years old only makes it that more special, because it still sounds fresh and inviting to my ears.

Bluetech, Abakus, Tripswitch, Vibrasphere. At least the tracks I’ve heard on last.fm. Great music!

Two very high quality albums, hot off the presses:

Indigo Egg - Ixland This was a Matt Hillier recording that he never got around to releasing.  Finally, though, it’s been remastered, fitted with new tracks and released.  The sound of this album is a little darker and more rhythmic than his work as Ishq, Ishvara and certainly Elve.  Highly recommended, as is everything he’s done.

Entheogenic - Flight of the Urubus I’ve avoided recommending Entheogenic (and a score of other producers) in this thread because I always felt that they were rather generic and unoriginal, and really didn’t offer anything new (I used to affectionately refer to them as ‘Entheo-generic’).  This album, however, has shattered my notions about them.  This latest offering is decidedly more intelligent, dynamic and interesting than their previous ones, to my ears.  It reminds me somewhat of melodic IDM acts like String Theory, although it certainly has the chilled psychedelic watermarks.  They did a great job on this one.

[quote author=“BigB”][quote author=“Joshua”]Anyone have the CD Madboojah: Project? Some of it sounds similar to Shpongle style judging only by the samples on psyshop.com. it seems like a pretty versatile album. I might buy it but want to hear anyone else’s opinion on the CD if they have it.

http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/pho/pho1cd384.html

I don’t have the CD, yet. But this video sounds pretty awesome, too.
Madboojah - Project definitely is a must have for me.

I just bought this cd, its pretty damn good, no shpongle but chillaxing all the way though. Sometimes it feels a little to repetitive, like track 2 i dont like to much but i would still recomend it as a great cd.

After it was sold out for a while at psyshop, i finaly got mine, too. And you’re right.
A very interesting concept, the CD has. Unfortunately the beat and rhythm of a lot of tracks seem to be nearly the same. But the traditional melodies, played on real instruments are making the disc pretty interesting.
I’m listening to it at least once a day, but what disturbs me a tiny little bit, are the hiphop influences, which don’t fit to well into the concept of the album (in my opinion).

Holy shit! Thanks everyone for all these recommendations. My ears have some heavy research to do!

Also, I think I only saw one other mention of Juno Reactor. I really enjoyed his stuff back in the mid-late 90’s/ I’m gonna dig up those cd’s later today!

This is a great topic, and I thought I’d revive it… from what I have listened to from this list, there is of course the obvious (that is, everything on the Twisted label…). For those not wanting to purchase 140 albums, I will give a few recommendations…

Androcell’s album, Efflorescence, is fantastic… the first track in particular gives a very Shpongleesque vibe, and the rest of the album does not let you down.

The Orb is a classic group, and some of their selections provide some outstanding ‘soundscapes’, one of the favorites from my youth is Orbus Terrarum.

Phutureprimitive I have to mention, as I’ve met the man himself at a show here in Portland where he is from, and find his music to be profound. Not to mention the live set he’ll be putting together on June 12th…. I am so eager….

Infinity Project is amazing….

more props out to Kaya Project, Kuba, Tripswitch, Celtic Cross (waiting on their remastered album to arrive), Entheogenic….

Damn, and I can vouch for more on that list, but those are the first that come to mind. Good luck satisfying your aural desires, all. This is one of the forum posts that really helped expand my taste in psy music probably a year and a half ago, so I thought I’d give a little back.

Cheers.

Hey all,

I’m actually the guy who maintains this Psychedelic Ambient list over on the Shroomery.  I just recently updated it with a lot of new artists.  And I’m not sure if you have to be registered on the Shroomery or not to view the thread I created, so I’ll just post the updated list here.

The list itself is quite large and intimidating but do what you want with it.  Lots of great artists here.  smile

Ooooh, VERY cool list.
Thank you!  LOL

It’s good to see recent artists like argaman on there too.

Very thorough list… only artist I can think of off the top of my head that belongs there but isn’t is Trentemoller. There is another similar list on psynews here http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php?/topic/56586-the-best-psychillambientdowntempo-albums-of-all-time-compiled/ that is very comprehensive and is adapted/added to by the members there.

Nice.  Thank you for the other link.  I agree, it’s pretty comprehensive.  I originally had a long list of compilation discs but deleted them when Discogs finally took off.  I guess it’s nice to know each artists albums that are psy-ambient, but how many people won’t check out the other albums of a particular artist because they are not on that list?

That’s why the list I made is just the artists and why I leave it up to the individual user to actually do some work in finding out what music they like.  wink

Another thing about my list is that over in the Shroomery, I have certain artists highlighted in red and others bolded so that readers can get a sense of what to checkout first, all based on my own very, very subjective opinions.

Plus, in that thread is a very cool discussion that’s about 5 pages long.  Can anybody confirm that it is indeed locked from non-registed Shroomery members?

Link is:

Cheers.

Very nice! I agree with all the red highlighted as first ‘checkouts’.
(Although I think Phutureprimitive should be red as well.)

I’m a non-member, and I can read the thread.
