Very nice! I agree with all the red highlighted as first ‘checkouts’.
(Although I think Phutureprimitive should be red as well.)

I’m a non-member, and I can read the thread.

I agree.  Fixed.  smile

Pen, thanks for that link… I am definitely gonna check out the highlighted artists I haven’t heard yet. This thread is so full of awesome music it’s wracking my brain smile

Diggin’ the Phutureprimitive love… I am from Portland, and have seen a couple of his performances in the area, amazing downtempo psychedelic…

Argaman - My Little Forest
http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/fay/fay1cd001.html

Argaman is achieves a really high level of Shpongleness.  He’s got that same qurikiness, unusual instrument choices, unexpected twists and turns.

Highly recommended.

Very thorough list… only artist I can think of off the top of my head that belongs there but isn’t is Trentemoller. There is another similar list on psynews here http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php?/topic/56586-the-best-psychillambientdowntempo-albums-of-all-time-compiled/ that is very comprehensive and is adapted/added to by the members there.

Just note that 80% of those are not similar to Shpongle whatsoever.

Most chillout music focuses on repetitive, rhythm, depth, etc. It’s closely liked with trance and/or ambient music.

Shpongle is very random, and more like world or folk music or something (I don’t listen to this stuff to be able to categorize it).

Something that’s somewhere in the middle, would be Entheogenic, his first 2 albums. Excellent stuff there IMO.

For more like Shpongle, other than Twisted stuff, try Easily Embarrassed. Note that most other stuff on CarDaMaR is once again completely different.

Twisted Records is one of the most commercial psy labels, yet they are the only psy label to stoop to crying publicly about not selling enough CDs. Better to spend your money supporting smaller labels and emerging artists that really have money problems. Twisted already sells thousands of each CD, they will hardly notice it if you just download their music in high quality instead.
