Well Ozric is one thing and Shpongle is another. . . smile  Both are amazing !

It is known that Posford is influenced by Ozric, among other things. . .

One can feel it in Shpongle here and there, and also in Younger Brother.

I don’t know if this was a conscious, intentional thing, or a subconscious thing or just a coincidence, but for example you can hear an obvious similarly between YB and Ozric here:

Ozric ( 1990 )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpM-bpwLsrs

YB ( 2003 )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pXEQQLSFNk

Simon even did a couple of remixes for Ozric tracks:

Hallucinogen Remix

Youth And Simon’s Hydrophonic Decimation
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1WXu8IsstQ

On the other hand I also know that Ed Wynne ( the main power of Ozric for many years, a founding member, and the only constant member ) likes Shpongle.

All the Ozric lineups over the years were great and created amazing albums. Merv Pepler ( drummer of Ozric in the past ) and Joie Hinton ( Synths in Ozric in the past ) later on became Eat Static. Now it’s only Merv I think. Ed and those guys also worked together on other projects such as Nodens Ictus, and collaborated on several tracks that were released on twisted ( Backroom Beats ) and Tip.World, such as:

A Night In Timisoara

wow, those songs’ (the one by the ozric and crumblenaut) similar structure probably is not a coincidence. thanks for pointing it out. knowing where the twisted geniuses get their inspiration from helps getting closer to their music. smile

lunitari, which album would you recommend to get introduced to the ozric? i checked discogs and erpland seems to get most appraisal.

My pleasure buddy grin

Erpland is the first Ozric album I heard back then ( 10 years ago I think, and I’m a fan ever since ). Definitely great to start with.

The first Ozric track I heard grin A real gem!

And that’s only a very small part of all the great stuff they created over the years.

If you ask me, buy all their albums grin All of them come with beautiful artwork as well.

A new album should be released very soon.

Welcome to the Ozric kingdom mate, you are going to discover so much fantastic timeless music smile

Cheers !

Wow thanks for all the links Lunitari, ill have to check them out.  Ozric goes way back, i first heard of them only about 2-3 years ago but they blow my mind!  Ozric Tentacles are one with the vibe of the plant thats for sure, its like you dont even hear all of the music unless you are in the right state of mind.  For instance, I listened to Erpland almost everyday for months, almost a year, I thought i knew every sound in that cd like the back of my hand.  Then I listened to it in an altered state and it was like i had never even heard it before.  I saw them in Boulder CO 2 years ago I think, it was in a small venue, but it was awesome, Ed’s wife (playing bass) said she felt like she just jamming in the living room with her mates.  That was the best show ive seen so far.

*edit: got a chance to check out some of those links, that sploosh remix is pretty cool.  and the similarities with the yb song and thorbbe are pretty cool too. The Ozrics have made so much music its almost overwhelming. I have 9 cds so far, which would be a lot with any other band but with Ozric Tentacles i feel like im just scratching the surface.

My pleasure mate smile

I have just counted my Ozric collection. I have 28 CDs ( I own 2 or 3 different editions of some albums, + Eternal Wheel - The Best Of CD, and the Nodens Ictus CD ), 1 DVD, 1 cassette, 3 t shirts, and some other cool stuff. . . Well, at least that was all that I found grin

As I said, Ozric is my favorite band, so that’s why I have all that stuff smile

I saw them live 4 times. 1 in Amsterdam and 3 here in Israel. One of my Erpland copies and my Spirals In Hyperspace copy are signed by Ed cool smile

About the new album - I know just what you know at the moment smile

Anyway, here are 3 old Ozric tracks that always move me ! ! !

Ozrics were a fantastic band. You can hear a lot of influences in Shpongle from themn, and also the first Younger Brother album.

It’s such a shame that Ed and the “band” (such as they are) have gone to America…

^ worked out alright for me, they only live about 6-8 hours from me now which makes it a lot easier for me to catch live shows, they have been touring in europe for a while now but im hoping for a couple shows in my area with the new cd coming out.

Lunitari: that sounds like an awesome collection! Someday i will have the entire discography, but that might take a while.  Also someday I want to see them at a music festival, Ozora would have been a dream come true, with Si and Raj and Ott AND Ozric all at the same festival… I hope that happens again someday when i have more time/ money to plan for it, its like all the planets aligning or something lol
