... which is not really directed to you alone, but since you are the most active guy of the Shpongle team on here, I’ll just ask you
.
Did you tailor “Nothing Is Something Worth Doing” specifically around that Hang drum instrument or did you start writing/composing that song before you heard of that quite unique Hang sound? I’m asking because I was recently wandering around the streets of Berlin when I suddenly heard a very familiar and unmistakable sound. There was a guy sitting in front of a small music store playing that instrument and well, it did sound pretty cool, although it sounds less impressive without other instruments accompanying it. We had a little chat after he was done, turned out he actually did know Shpongle, but that’s not the point here…
The thing is, I could barely hear that sound through all the street noise, but as soon as I did hear it, I walked straight up to him and there was a bunch of people listening. That moment made me realize how important that instrument is to the entire song. With an instrument that unusual and somehow powerful, I was wondering if the creation of that song went like “OK, I have a nice song almost done, just need one more obscure instrument to give it that extra Shpongle-quality” or did it go “Hang drums sound awesome, let’s build a song around it”. Which one was first? The Hang or the song? ![]()
