We are having a Twisted Records remix contest! The contest officially begins TODAY and lasts until January 1st, 2012. Anyone and everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate in this contest.
The two songs that we have chosen for the contest are Shpongle’s “Behind Closed Eyelids” and Younger Brother’s “Evil & Harm”. This is the first remix contest on the site, and hopefully will not be the last. We will include other artists and songs in later contests! Let’s see what kind of twists we can put on our favorite already-twisted music!
The official Rules & Regulations information page is here:
I’m going to PM you about being a judge! I’m completely neutral like a Swissman and I like all types of electronic music (except for really cheezy epic vocal trance) so anything’s fair game. And I’m not a musician in the slightest, I don’t know if that would matter or not. PM!
It’s not usually acceptable to post an artist’s original songs as a download in their record label’s forum…and since this contest isn’t officially sponsored by Twisted, I’m not sure I could get away with posting the songs.
It seems that everyone may have to acquire them on their own.
soundcloud has been getting cease and desist orders.
Slammin’ what is up with that? Like what kind of uploaders are getting the cease an desist orders? Curious.
Anyway, It would be oh-so-suh’weet of some of the twisted guys to float the remixers some of the pieces (Si? Benji?), but if you can’t get the pieces, what about cover versions? Those have to be way tougher than doing remixes, but I’ve heard a few (most recently LOUD covering Prodigy’s Insomnia)... if you can recreate Evil & Harm, in any way, damn mutha.
The remixed track CAN contain any number of stems or samples from the original song(s), they just won’t be provided here.
Mixed feelings about this…Just out of curiosity, who is the “we” that are “having” this remix contest? I suppose trying to filter stems out of the original tunes would give you something to work with, but I’d rather see a contest provided and/or sponsored by Twisted that included their choice of original stems. Seems a bit strange to be giving permission for use of original work for a remix contest that’s not even associated with the label. With that said, I would also question the use of the Twisted logo on your info link.
Suppose it’d be interesting to see what people turn out though…
I would rather see an official contest provided and sponsored by the Twisted label as well, but unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we would have. The contest is for us, by us. Also, if the logo in the sheet poses a problem, I will be glad to remove it.
People make Twisted remixes all the time…this “contest” just basically just acts as an outlet for others to hear them. Should be fun!
Ok. Lets face it. There are no stems so it will be more of a cover/recreate contest than a remix. Simon has said before all the old tracks are lost on old computers that were in a damp basement. So this is more about us being able to recreate our own versions of old tracks that we like.
