So my first quest, Divine Moments of Truth (Are You Shpongled?), starts at 3 minutes 11 seconds in, there’s a sound, like a convex disc of solid form mercury existing on the edge of an event horizon, what makes that sound??

And please, I’d love to hear your own visualization of it, even if you don’t (or do!) know what it is..

And to continue on, pick another Shpongle sound and let’s talk all about it smile smile

Hehe, I’d like to know what it really is, it’s definitly a sample with some resonating filters of some sorts and then pitched up and down and reversed with delays etc etc raspberry
4:36 in monster hit is also a little snippet of this sound btw.

4:36?  I’m not catching it!! :( :(  Damn, my ear palate is clearly not so finely tuned as I’d like to think.  Are you sure about the time?  Wait, is it what comes in when there’s around 4:36 left?  (so that’s at about 4:20, ah nice, go figure)  LOL now I’m switching back to DMT for comparison….  Yes, yes, I can see those two being related :D Cool!!
Another twist of shininess I like is Shpongleyes from 4:39 to 4:54 (especially starting at 4:43), though technically not a sound, I’m really referring more to the effect—am I correct in assuming that is a flanger?  I don’t know much technical stuff..  But I like how they doubled up on the “up” part, the second following the first (naturally), and then drag it all down to the bottom again.  That literally pulls something up out of me every time!

I love this thread!  Can’t wait to spend more time analyzing the technical stuff…that’s my favorite.

Living in a new town (so no friends to speak of yet), with MP3 player in hand, (and a nice glass of cheap wine, of course), I’ve decided to re-dedicate myself to this thread.  Starting with Ineffable Mysteries, here we go….

Electroplasm:

Who doesn’t like what happens at 4:34 til approx 5:15..  I like how Shpongle takes what might well be nonsense vocalization and throws it in a popcorn chamber with direction, followed with that stutter music from 5:26 thru like 5:37.  And then this beat drops in for us all, circa 5:52, to grab the beat of your heart and take you into the rest of the track I suppose..  THEN, 7:53, I like that quick upbringing into some more nebulous vocals.  But of course, 8:35 is where we all grab that beat.  Very nice, Shpongle.  “I feel so happy right now..  ..I feel DRUNK!!”  Whoof, indeed.

Shpongolese Spoken Here:

I must say, I missed the beauty of this intro for probably the first double dozen listens.  But that’s freakin’ CANDY.  There is so much to be learned there, if you’re trying to learn something (and wish I had a foundation to learn more from).  Gimme that slowdown 00:28 to 00:31 anytime, that’s perfect.  And again 1:10 to 1:12.  LOVE IT.  Perfectly placed.  The “bring it up” beat starting 1:57, you nailed it, Shpongle.  I’ve been brought into the room. OK, obviously would love to know the actual lyrics 2:56 thru 3:25 ..yes, “the people,” indeed wink  4:03, thank you for that quick little stick trick.  And all repeated versions of it.  <<Gah, I gotta stop commenting on EVERYTHING, or this post won’t end..>>  4:32 I like that sound as well, tho, something nice and swanky about it.

Nothing is Something Worth Doing (just gotta say, nice title):

Should I feel bad that all I can say about this one is Hey, this is so nice and chill..  ?  I do like whatever you call that sound tho, is that kettle drums?

Ineffable Mysteries:  (this is gonna hurt you and me both, lol)

“Morning, Darling.”  I LOVE this track.  Start to end.  Eventually I see myself on a mountaintop village, real or metaphorical, and I’m actually on my way to either (thanks, bow bow, thanks…)  1:33.  Let’s go.  Crap, it feels silly to mention anything in this track, just because (let me be clear) I don’t see how anyone could be immune to its magic, most importantly starting 00:59 (but before, yes, include that cymbal track, if that’s what it is) == the galloping first in a beatbeatbeatbeatbeat led to (breath) beat at 1:03, slow your breath, and GO..  (hello, horizon..)  LOVE THESE VOCALS.  SHPONGLE, WELL DONE FRIENDS, THIS IS MAGIC.  And now the twist comes in smile smile  OH, right, this is the track I LOVE the saxophone sounds.  Very partial to that smile  This whole track makes me think very much like Kathmandu market, tho I’ve never been close so it could be my hollywood version of it.  (p.s. thank you Raj for the flute, but please take a thank u on all tracks lol)  4:24 beat sounds spidery-climbey-all to me, I like that.  Then we get to the true genius, I bet I can only credit Simon for this, 4:51 thru 5:01, again 5:05 thru 5:12.  FUCK.  I could write a whole section on just that span.  I’m sorry, that’s genius.  You gotta understand life for that.  More nuanced than I could possibly give accolades for.  I better call it quits on this one for now, or no one will keep reading..

(p.s. I love how Ineffable leads into I Am You, wow, those hill bells, that’s good stuff)

I Am You

Wow, I should have stopped trackses ago, this is getting into truly ineffable territory just for me..

Can I just say, this whole album rocks the town up and down and sideways to boot, but damn if I wouldnt’ say the same about the others raspberry

“Yes, Yes, Yes..”  “I’d like to teach you about ..”  SOMETHING :D

OK, I gotta try to concentrate, because there is MUCH to say about this track.

Let’s skip the intro, everyone knows that rocks…

I must mention 1:30, tho it starts earlier, but here’s where you feel it most, ok what does this make me think…  carrot deep, baby.  With fronds that reach up up up.  Let me try to make myself sound less crazy, hehe…  So if you are the world, oh crap fudge it all I can’t do it right now raspberry Blame my cheap wine…  Nevermind it tho, because he’ll bring you in sneaky at 1:54 and then 2:24 if it took you that long wink  And by now, we’re ALL in here..  (thank you just prior Raj) Hello 2:55 smile smile  3:10 to holy frack I’m lost I dont’ even know if I can do this justice, 3:26 this becomes unmentionable, ok in retrospect I think this is easily the best transition on the whole album, twist that in and out, and then a lower tier, goddamn i wish i was a poetess!!!  <<I would like to interject, I’m still too starstruck to properly catalog the really best Shpongle tracks, but let’s let it suffice to say that this is without doubt one of the few top tier, with my promises to try to enunciate my feelings better, if anyone’s even intereseted at this point!!>>  You know what, you reader?  If you’re here, then you are me, and I am you smile  And THAT is saying something.  And thank you Shpongle for that wink

((Here is where I would most love to enterain ALL yall’s input)

oo, i’ve mentioned this before, but when the track goes up at 8:40..

I end only with I dont’ know if I could ever do justice to this track.  PEACE.

Invisible Man In a Fluorescent Suit

This is another one that didn’t hit me at first.  But now that it has, I must truthfully say, there is no other song that more says “This Is Shpongle” to me.  I’m not sure why.  Tho I know it has much to do with the build starting 1:48 all the way thru, especially 3:55 to about 4:00, with all those intricacies and stories that occur in the interim (thank you 2:12, whoops i realize out of place, sorry!!).  I have to think Simon felt something here.  But the wonderful thing about this track is that after you’ve been inducted you’re fervently welcomed and invited in,.  Who can resist that crack rock rush (cont’d)

(p.s. I"ve never done crack)

Sorry, continuance..

I.M.i.a.F.S.:

going from 04:01 this is precisely where I’d call it nothing but Shpongle sound.

Nobody I know does this.

(and feel free to correct me)

Yugh, I"m making a mess of my point.  LEt me backtrack if you don’t mind…

I’m gonna finish out I.M.i.a.F.S. if that’s ok, cuz I don’t want anyone to think I"m not FLOORED by this one,:

we’ll pick it up at 4:00, and goddamn if Simon didn’t time that to a T, here is where I most hear Shpongle (tho kinda far from my fave track, please don’t hate Si)  I hear horns, baby.  Who could hate that.  And now I hear strings.  This is symphonically beautiful smile

Just sayin, you never know where beauty lies do you, just sayin’ smile

I am getting lazy in my enjoyment….

I WANT FEEDBACK, PS y’all…...

easy call, the background trill 7:50, that’s floyd, that is, and well played smile

OK< NEXT TRACK..

No Turn Un-Stoned:

My fave of this, easily, the vocals :D (I mean fave about this track) Michele, is it??  LOVE.

Reality, ripping at the seams, LOVE IT.

Life can be HEY it ain’t so easy, you know that??!  LOL It’s rough stuff.

Did you know, by the way, sometimes the hard road is actually the easy road in disguise??  What a world that opens when you see that..

I dont’ think I have to say anything about this track, do I?  I would guess anyone still listening is perfectly open to this message.

...The boundless ocean of you….

BLURGH, STAY TUNED, I CAN’T BE DONE YET..

Check out Adrift In Kerala by BOB HOLROYD and name that Shpongle track. I wonder where/if Holroyd sampled it? I doubt the Shpongle track makes any sense lyrically raspberry but I’m still curious as to whether it does.
