First off, sorry if this type of discussion is disallowed / discouraged! It may be removed if so. (I hope not. :D)
Anyway, I know most of you guys are well aware of the synergy between Shpongle and psychedelics. However, this past weekend I discovered another ~AMAZING~ chemical key to the doors of Shpongleland, and it’s not a psychedelic, but a dissociative: methoxetamine! Some of you classical-psychedelic partisans may scoff, but hear me out, because this is for real! And it’s not something that happens to ANY old music on MXE—Si and Raj have the magic touch.
On Saturday, I listened to Ineffable Mysteries on MXE, which was beyond gorgeous. Then, on Sunday, I pushed the dosage up a notch, and listened to Nothing Lasts…
O_O ... <3 ... I have never loved Shpongle so deeply as I do now.
Firstly, the visuals. Unlike classical psychedelics (which are also dear to my heart), the visuals were not bound to the traditional “psychedelic” thematic style. Traditional visuals usually have some sort of fractal geometry, or geometric patterning, usually use neon rainbow colors, and just have a consistent vibe. On MXE, the variation was endless, and the visuals had NO bounds. Instead of everything being kaleidoscopic, it was like looking at a moving painting, morphing through an endless number of artistic styles, all drawn by different artists, using different color palettes. And it was always *perfectly* matched to the emotion of the music.
Secondly, it was a completely cosmic, spiritual experience, only rivaled in profundity by DMT. MXE removed all boundaries. Nothing had to be logical, shapes didn’t have to be three dimensional, time didn’t have to flow linearly. I became a god, able to experience literally anything that I could imagine, and then things that were totally impossible to imagine. At one point the music became another spirit, and we were both overflowing with burning, intense sexual energy, and the music was like a cosmic sexual encounter, which was completely different than sex between two humans.
I will never see the world the same way. Nothing is impossible. My deepest thanks for showing me some of those possibilities, Shpongle! 8)
