Shpongle is scheduled for a show in Tampa on 10/25(although it doesn’t show up on the website).
Can someone explain what the difference is between a live show and a DJ set, and which this show is supposed to be? (The event listings on the website for the other shows say DJ set, but the local listings say live.)
I’d love to see a live show, but if it’s just Simon spinning recordings, I’m not sure it’s worth seeing in a crowded hall.

If it’s a Masquerade date, I’d imagine (in this case) that the ‘live show’ would include the new Shpongletron and all of the lighting.  The DJ set would probably be Simon with his setup on a table and still some cool video screens and lights.

I’ve only seen the full Shpongletron setup (twice), but here’s a video of a DJ set that still looks rad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90QcfQnzMbc

I just wanted to add a little info: I went to two Masquerade dates and neither one had the Shpongletron.  The first (at the Rock and Roll Resort psybient festival) did have some screens set up flanking the stage with some cool visuals (though not the same as what’s shown at Shpongletron, from what I can tell) but other than that it was just Simon and his tables.  The second date I went to did not even have screens/visuals, so it was Simon, his tables, and nothing else.  That said, Simon’s still Simon, so it’s still always worth the money, imo smile  Anyways, when I debated going to a third Masquerade date I first messaged Simon on FB to ask about the ‘tron—so FYI, here was his response to me:

“... i don’t have the details for the next leg of the tour. We will certainly be bringing it - we only don’t set it up if there isn’t room in the venue. Your probably best off asking the venue or the promoter. The promoter always knows, because my management are very specific when they make the contract.”

That was the previous tour leg, but I’d guess it’s the same situation now, too.  Word of caution, though, I did as Simon suggested and called the venue (who was also the promoter) and they were unable to give me a definite answer.  In any case, I’d assume none of these Masquerade tour dates are Full Band “live” events, unless they’re specified as such.

—edit—Also, if the price of the ticket isn’t significantly more than the ones that say “dj set,” I think you should assume it is not a “live” (i.e. full band) event.

“It is by attempting the impossible that we reach the highest level of possible”  probably misquoted, and by a great British author, I will find the right reference..

Either way, the party itself will still be a blast! You may already know, but Shpongle always brings out a wild crowd! I’m always seeing cute girls with their hair plumed by peacock feathers, dudes with warrior face paint, guys in full dinosaur suits, old yogi men doing dance moves I never thought possible, and all the other types so on through infinity. I think its worth going to, so if you’re seeing Shpongle in Seattle, you’ll see my friends and I there! wink
