Damn, this forum’s gone quiet Anyone else has the feeling that new album draws a lot of influences from the first shpongle?
I hear a nice version of Divine Moments Of Truth in track 4 whereas track 1 and 2 seem to lean a bit towards the Nothing Lasts album. Those two tracks (1&2) could have easily been mixed into one another.
All in all Museum of Consciousness is a bit hard to grab for me, even after ~5 listens. But that isn’t a bad thing at all. Not uncommonly albums that are catchy with the first listen tend to get boring quickly.
If i had to say something i would claim the album is too short. Especially the last track: beauuutifullest but it ends too soon. This makes me want to push the play button again.
Interim conclusion: divers and interesting, has to be examined furhter..
To Raja and Simon: go return to the studio immediately, don’t pause 3 or 4 years, use the creative flow you’re obviously in right now, throw up an extended Shpongle soundclash and feed the world’s ears with it. How about that?
I have the same feeling about aquatic garden of celestial delights, whose percussive vocals are just genius Very remiscent of DMT! Same goes of course for the wonderful juggling molecules.
Further adventures in shpongleland reminds me at some point of Monster hit, and the outro of how the jellyfish jumped out the mountain, with its spacey and outward feel definitely shares a lot of things with the endings of all are you shpongled’s tracks.
All in all, i’m so surprised by this album which i didn’t expect at all. Especially considering the ineffable mysteries from shpongleland which i never really got into, and, the last YB album which took such a different direction…Despite some criticisms that said MoC is too similar to previous albums, i think on the contrary that it took a lot of risks while still being faithful to the original spirit. The epiphany of Mrs. Kugla is probably the perfect example…
I also thought that the album takes you to a LOT of different places and moods, even within a single track! which is one of the reasons i loved are you shpongled so much.
