Hello everyone! Just now have been listening to one of the best Shpongle tracks ever (imho) wich is Beija-Flor. And i couldn’t help but wonder - who’s singing the lyrics? (track time 7:20) Doesn’t look like it’s been specially recorded for this track. So i guess there’s an original “Beija flor” (is it spanish?)

So if anyone knows who’s the artist of the original beija flor track - please tell me.
‘cause i looked ‘round the net and noticed that there’s like a hundred “carloses” and “joses” who sing the damn song. Which one is used in shpongle?..

Anyway, it’s sad that there’s no more shpongle.com :(

I know what you mean… I heard that guy singing in a song in a restaurant once… desperatly tried to make the whole table shut up and listen to shpongle in Nando’s… I’ll ask Si P and see what he says…

there will be a link to the old Shpongle site eventually. And then a spanking new one like this! x

Hm, i didn’t catch that - who’s the guy singin in a restaurant?
I’m just looking for the name of the band and the name of the song, used in “Shpongle-Beija flor”.

seems there’s a nice romantic theme with the same name, but i don’t see that latino-burning-guitar-strings music anywhere. The part, sung by the chorus… i can’t catch the lyrics correcyly ‘cause i don’t know spanish that well… And thus i can’t find anything on the net :(

If there’s any chance Si P knows about this… i’d owe him a beer :D That tune just can’t stop playing in my head.

As far as I know, the origin of beija floor is from the Brasilian samba school beija floor. I heard once a radioprogram on that specific school, and i heard several samples of the music beeing used there, and they were very similar to samples Simon use.

“Beija Flor” is portuguese, it means “beautiful flower”....
(i guess… cause I don’t speak portuguese, but I understand it…. In spanish it would be “Bella Flor”, so in fact I’m pretty sure about this…)

I never heard this track as it was only released in vynil, but I thought it was included in “Nothing lasts” album, divided in three parts (the three first tracks). Is this true? just to confirm that I’m not missing one Shpongle track….

thx!!

yeah, in this trakj the guy sings something about Brazil, definitely in portugues language (spoken there  ) so i think it’s no wonder if there exists a bazillian song like that, which can be played in restaurants as well as used in Shpongle tracks :D

if anyone finds any version of the song i would be glad to listen to it too

Here’s some information for you: Beija Flor really is a so-called Brazilian “samba school”. The name means Hummingbird (literally: kisses flowers). The song you hear is called “A m
