Is Feedback for artists to much to ask?

Hi everyone.

Hope all is well in the twisted community.

When I joined up here I thought great, some more people to torture with my music. No I was thinking that it would be good to get feedback on my tracks, as I’ve only been producing for 2 years and would really really like to know where to improve. Yes there are things self taught and things you stumble upon, however other opinions are valued because the listening experience is different.

So when I joined I started to post feedback and comments on the new releases, also leaving comments on some tracks I heard on sessions. However I don’t see myself qualified enough on the production side to comment so much. It became apparent that I wasn’t getting very much feedback, bar a few people. For example my new track I posted about has had 28 views not one reply/comment. I find this a bit crazy. Are you all worried about upsetting us newbies by saying it’s not good?  If you think my music sucks, please tell me. If you think the bass needs something or a melody sounds off. I would like to know. I may not have realised or didn’t know about a certain trick.

I believe that many people are here to have a chance to get their music out in what is a mainstream world of pop culture. Normally I wouldn’t have had the chance to reach out to the community like this. This is a fantastic opportunity for us provided by the Twisted dudes.

So please let people know how they can improve so we can keep going. Older artists you must have had similar experiences when starting out. Trying to get people to listen, get feedback and so on. Did you all learn everything yourselves. I find it hard to believe. I can imagine a few people maybe.

Anyway take care everyone and let’s all make some cool tunskies.

P.S. Seriously I value criticism because I know my music isn’t that great, however it’s where I am at just now. Feedback allows the artist to progress. I believe we all want to do that. Or do you think I’m just being a dick about not getting feedback? Feel free to tell me that also haha LOL LOL

There ain’t nothing wrong with your music man.
Very nice. Like you said It’s yours. If you dig it you don’t need to be told.
Besides the ART(self discovery) af any ART is in the journey (how you get there). RIGHT?

Keep pluggin away. I hear top 50 music that is shit compared to your stuff.

Keep writing. I do and every time I write a track I can find a million things wrong but others like it. and like you ITS MINE and where I’m at.

Let it come. It will. I’ll be keepin’ an ear out for your stuff.

here’s my constructive question: What are you monitoring with? and are they set up right?

Cheers from OZ

Thanks for the confidence boost dude!

Ok I’m not exactly sure how you mean “How am I Monitoring” Do you mean how I have my monitors to the mixer to the soundcard setup? So by me asking there is probably a high chance that it’s wrong.

I’m glad you like the track. I was just a bit bummed cos I saw people listening and I am so impatient about progressing sometimes. All my mates are years ahead so I’m playing a little catch up. I really want to learn new techniques now in production. As you say it will come.

Thanks for posting and take it easy.

what I mean with the monitors is: speakers
There seems to be something in the mix.
when you wack on shpongle in your sudio does it sound f%&king; brilliant or does it sound better on the living room stereo. Take your favorite tracks (stuff you listen too) and set your speakers just perfect so everything you listen too sounds awsome.
I use Ott-Jacks cheese and bread snack for setting the bass. and those crispy little crunchy, twinkley bits up way high. Then I crank up tracks 7,8 & 9 from Tales of the inexpressible. If I can make them sound just the way I like it I know I’m in the right ball park. a little EQ goes a very long way. also,
I’m not sure but I reckon if you play a single tone and pan it from left to right and back again you’ll find the level will fluctuate in the center. Move your speakers in and out so the level is uniform throughout the pan.
Give it a shot.
where’d you get that pic for “Twisted journey of sound Part 1”. It’s great
Cheers man

I’m using ESI nEAR monitors if that’s what you mean. So nothing sounds better in my stereo speakers compared to them.

Ok I’ll try that sound thing to see if they are centered ok. I have just moved everytihng around as well.
Not sure on the source of my picture. A friend of mine sent it on MSN and I’m trying to find out which one in my who sent me what folder. Yeah I thought it was a sweet picture too.
Thanks again anyways

One trick; if you are able to, is to put your speakers outdoors - away from any walls or reflective material, an listen to it there! Then you can easily focuson the full range of any reverb and colored noise.

Indoors I always use an open Sennheiser headpiece (HD600) simultaniously as gaining on my monitors and having the sub under my sofa…

I agree to the part about the feedback; there should be a commentfield on the artis/music pages for people to enter it. Imagina a button titled [Comment this track]!

I’ve listen do your tracks and…

“Twisted journey of sound Part 1”
I enjoyed the end part most; I felt there was not enough punch and a little messy at the beginning. Probably because of the leadapreggio not being quite in feel with the bass.

“Gravity”
Great bassline; was the the first I noticed. When the piano came in it reminded me of some of my own work, but I think it was a little staccatto (could have been doubled). Even thou it is a nice bass riff, I don’t think it’s the right sound for the track; it’s a little hollow, kind of damped fretless fender jazzbass. Have you tried to replace it with a TB?

I did also listen to:

“Mescalito”
A great track! Very Juno reactor at the beginning, but very Hallucinogen/Sphongle at a whole. Loved it! - It’s many years since I last met San Pedro, mostly I remember the vividness of colors wink

“La Paz RMX”
Warm and nice sound. I noticed how much more I enjoy this type of bass line. There was some strange portamento on the pitching lead, but at a whole I’m impressed!

In conclusion:
The two tracks you got here on twistedsessions differ a lot from the other two. For your next track you should probably try using TB bass. For the record, I listened first to the two tracks here, then the others, and then the two here again; and a thought that came into my mind was that you could try to first make a tune and then not mix it but remix it.

Feel free to listen to my songs at twistedsessions.com/nakiel
... and post me some feedback…

Keep up the good work, and remember the words of Bob Moog: “Music is the language of God - it’s not what you say, but how you say it…”[/url]

Hi there

Thanks for your detailed feedback. Totally appreciated. This was exactly the sort of the thing I was after. Trying to work out how to get my monitors and gear outside LOL

I have to tell you though that Mescalito and La Paz RMX aren’t my tracks unfortunately. They are from a very good friend of mine. His artist name is metzAnima. He’s from Bolivia but lives in Sweden. He went back to Bolivia in late 2004 and was there for 4 months. I love the mescalito track. I thought personally that La Paz was at the wrong tempo. As you say the bass line is good though. So that is why the tracks differ?

The TB issue. I’m using Audiorealism bassline at the moment because after switching from Fruity to Ableton VB1 doesn’t work anymore.

I have to shoot off now but a)will listen to your tracks and see if I have any ideas from them and b)write back to say my little bit.

I see also there are few more releases to be heard too.

Thanks again and catch you later
