I think the absolute best thing would be to find a venue that has the best of both worlds.  Have a nice space to dance in, upfront; and have good seating arrangements around or in back.

There are several clubs like that in NYC, but I don’t know London at all.  I don’t even know if there are any concert venues or dance halls that would work.

For instance, the Knitting Factory show was a mild disappointment (there is no such thing as a disappointment, or even a mild disappointment, with Simon, but it’s the only word that fits) versus the night at Cielo.  But then again, the North East crowd he’s drawing is changing, and this is what happens.

The idea of a sit-down and trip out shpongle set sounds great (to me at least) in theory, but I don’t it’d be very satisfying to most who would show up. I like the idea of a venue that combined the two ideas (like the poster above me suggested), but it’d have to be done very well.

Beyond that, I’m all for more down-tempo shpongle. People will find a way to dance no matter what, but being able to get some of that laid-back goodness would be most appreciated.

i think that live shpongle needs to tour, and come to Vancouver, BC, Canada, and play at the Commodore Ballroom, and come to the Sunshine Coast and play a live outdoor intimate show at Crystal Creek, and do a fundraiser for Elphinstone Ecovillage and Shamanic Eco Retreat Centre.

come on Simon…we luv ya here!!! i will promise you a good time… wink and all the elf spice you could ever possibly imagine… among other things…

[quote author=“ozdave”]NO NO NO the Royal Festival Hall is a BAD IDEA. It is a great venue for sound but is not suited to a psychadelic gathering. It would be NO SMOKING for one thing…......Seats are also not good as they stop proper dancing or walking about. How about Alexandra Palace.Saw Infected Mushroom there,LOADS OF SPACE!!!

+1. Alexandra Palace would be PERFECT!

IMO, even the down tempo Shpongle songs create so much energy inside me that I won’t sit down for a long time smile

Pretty gutted about Shpongle not playing live in London :(  I wonder why Raj didn’t want to do Brixton, I was well up for it.

Anyway the plus side is the fourth album :D and as for the line up for the party instead I’d love to see a Younger Brother album launch party.

How could Raja say no to the live show?
I don’t understand why he wouldn’t want to be a part of it, I mean isn’t he one-half of Shpongle? Is he washing his hair that day?

What’s his beef, was he scared he’d have TOO much fun?

Raja Ram pulls plug on London Shpongle gig

With a heavy heart and a quivering lower lip, Twisted HQ regret to inform you, that on Tuesday 23rd January 2007, it was confirmed that there will be NO Live Shpongle gig at Brixton Academy on May 25th and the band, as yet, have NO plans for future live performances. On a day Twisted HQ have dubbed, Black Tuesday, Raja Ram - one half of the band formed with Simon Posford, turned down the exciting opportunity to play at one of the UK’s most exclusive live music venues. In a statement given by a gutted Simon Posford yesterday, he confirmed;
” Raja Ram said ‘No’... he won’t do Brixton Academy… which means that right now, there’s no plans for a Shpongle Live Show.”
So as the rain clouds formed over Twisted HQ, whimpers were heard emanating from label manager, Simon H

It’s sad indeed that the opportunity to see Shpongle play live has slipped away. But I can’t say I blame Raja Ram.

(Jaw dropping)

Simon Posford and Raja Ram are taking us on another trip to Shpongleland?

(kneedropping to praise the gods)

Unless its a premature april’s fool and you’re really serious about this, then thank you so much for answering our prayers. Its seems something does last after all….

If Simon ask for suggestions as to what to do with the date, I say: “Hell yeah, put on a Younger Brother show along with some Hallucinogen-in-dub live, pump us full of magic monkey juice and take us on a trip to Spaceland”.

Great news indeed….

Delighted about the new album. On the other hand what’s the point of having such an amazing band when you never get the chance to see them life?

I would have liked to hear Hallucinogen 3 before Shpongle 4 but hell I think SP & Raj will do another stunning job so everyone will have to be a bit more patient maybe for a…..year or two, three :?:

The Shpongle project is probably THE most inovative music I’ve ever heard in my life.  But alas I would have loved to see the live show

Hello All!

a couple of things…

1: we are locking this thread from now… please post in the new thread.  This is because the gig in the Brixton Academy is actually on the 25th of May..

http://twisted.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5227#5227

2: Its a shame about Shpongle LIVE.. but everything happens for a reason.. when it does happen.. it’ll be even better!

smile
