Seems every shpongle set in the US is dominated by the more dance-oriented floor stompers of the shpongle discography… which also happens to be the minimum of the shpongle discography… so why perform a dance music set for a group that makes hallucinogenic chillout, that makes you float and transcend through layers of new slippery dimensions of welcoming creatures, peaceful villages, and mental illumination.

It’s not that the dance music sets aren’t the shit. And of course it’s obvious to me why simon would perform only the dancier tracks in a live setting, hoping to ignite a dance fest… but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to just float out of my body at an event, into other worlds, wisping away, and melting down, to a soundtrack of the more chilling and floaty tracks of the shpongle song catalog… This would also leave WAAAAY more room for improvisation and less-orderly suprises… (and more hallucinogen in dub! + live instrumentation [hello disco biscuits… learn more posford songs, besides only gamma goblins])

For me, this would be far more mind blowing, than playing only a select handful of dancier crowd-bouncing shpongle numbers…

Anyone else’s thoughts?

I agree also with this point.  When SP did the Shponlge set at the 10th birthday party he did play a variety of tracks but tended to mix them at the more up beat parts so to create a dancer Shpongle vibe which was absolutley amazing and I think suited the gig.

But for a Shongle live set I wonder if the tracks are played from start to finish?  There’s a clip of Tea Daze on YouTube I think in which this is done and it’s amazing to see them do the whole track.

I really do hope that when the live gig is on in a few months the whole tracks are played to do them justice so to create the full dimension of the music. :D

It depends how long his set is

I’ve been witness to two 3-hour sets by Shpongle (Australia and Turkey), plus a handful of regular 90 minute sets. He seems to stretch the 3 hour sets out by playing a lot of sleepy, dreamy stuff at the start and finish, whereas the shorter sets leave less room to move. He’s more likely to crank things up due to the shorter time.

Also, if he’s playing at night time then he’s probably going to play more dancefloor-orientated stuff simply due to night time being ‘party time’. To contrast, both of the 3 hour sets I saw were at lunchtime where everyone was just sitting around under trees and the mood was more chilled.

Plus the third album is more up-tempo anyway, and he’s probably going to be promoting it for a little while longer.
