we’re starting to design the new shpongle.com website next week. if there’s a fearture or something you’d really like to see, post it here.
also if you’ve seen any BRILLIANT websites you think we should know about…...
on the list so far we have:
1. free shpongle email (maybe ext to all dormant twisted domains, shpongle.co.uk, blumentkraft.co.uk etc etc,?)
2. shpongle radio or live dj mixes from the office.
3. ?
You can also see there about the Music->releases etc. like I mentioned above. With Images of the CD covers etc, yet simple.
And last, for fans LOGOS, like the real .psd (if it’s a photoshop file) of the Hallucinogen logo, and the Bull’s skull image etc… just logos in high-res (and layered or on a white background so I don’t need to cut out all around the logo, like I had to do on my signature image). The Hallucinogen font would be cool too
That’s what I’d like!
May sound irrelevant, but the old shpongle site had the Hallucinogen site in it.
i was thinking more design wise, not really the content just yet. perhaps i didnt explain that very well in my previous post.
most of the things youve listed above you can get from twisted.co.uk or a couple of clicks of the mouse over at discogs.com
i personally think the infected site is a little on the dull side to be honest and reminds me of those ‘website in a box for $29.99’ sites you get with google ads all over them. im sure that just me tho.
That’s true about the infected site, but I was mainly referring to the data about the tracks and CDs and the simple news thing. Well, I like simple websites, but I also love cool looking ones. Those logos (if you were referring to them, is not on the discogs, but I know, the CD stuff is there, and also on psydb.net) Anyways, sorry for rushing in with my idea of contents. Well, this site I think is kinda simple AND looking cool (which I like).
For some reason I like logos etc., so for me I would (although I don’t make webpages) make a logo on the top-left corner, for each artist and the official title-logo. In other words, Shpongle Head thing, in the Left and the Shpongle title pic to the right, This Hallucinogen skull thing (like on the mug, which I just ordered or my avatar) on the left, and the Hallucinogen title on the right… But I don’t really have an idea ATM.
PS: No offense meant, but the first page of this site (intro page or whatever that’s called) I don’t really like, it’s too “complicated”.
I think dark colors is a good idea, especially when reading thru posts/threads or other things for a while, so it’s not so straining for the eye (strenuous?).
[quote author=“simonh”]adding the mp3 downloads is a good idea
it’d be nice if you could also add .ogg vorbis files for download. it’s an open source audio codec which performs better than mp3 at any bitrate. it’s patent and licence free, thus you don’t have to pay any fees for publishing .ogg files.
Check out www.eneone.com Those guys have mad skills and could really make your site look nice. They’ve done some stuff for the Disco Biscuits among others.
The Shpongle website could have little hidden links and such that, when discovered, would provide the fans with various info, trivia, goodies, and downloads. So the site would kind of be like Shpongleland, with an element of exploration.
As someone hinted at earlier, I think that the Twisted Main page is way too information-rich, almost to a redundant point. When someone goes to a record label site, most likely they are checking for any news updates from that label. One problem with the Twisted Main page is that it basically has three sections on the same level to display news items. There’s “News” on the left with the blurbs, “Current Article” to the right to display the full text of a selected blurb, and then the “Blog” which seems to be just another place to write bulletins. All of these are on the top level, which (when combined with the mini-forum, the “Latest Releases” section and the “Upcoming Events” section) makes for an extremely cluttered homepage. I would prefer to see more use of deeper levels, so that the content of any page would have sufficient real estate. For instance, the full text of the news blurbs could advance/open in another window. I also think that the “News” and “Blog’ should be consolidated into one channel that gives the users the latest word from Twisted Records.
Other than that, I think the Twisted site is spot-on and that the design complements the label quite well. Besides de-cluttering the main page, I see no reason that the Shpongle site couldn’t be nearly identical to this one.
Something to keep in mind - my formal UI training is more geared for devices and machines, not web pages, so feel free to disagree!
I just want my old Shponglmail to finally work, it did once, for a week!
Current News and updates would be good too. E.G. What ‘s happening with Secrets From Shpongleland??
Fans want info first, that’s the whole point of a fan site.
Infected Mushroom’s website may not be real flash, but that is in accordance to the wishes of the Community there. That is one very tight, and close knit community who love and respect the artists, and are not interested in all the bells and whistles, but in the the music itself.
Simplicity = Accessability.
IMO
you’ll have to re register for the shpongle mail as it will be a completely fresh install.
its very tricky getting concrete news from raj and sie (or any twisted artist) but we do add news and updates as and when we have them, we havent posted any news about the shpongle boxset because we dont have any at the moment. we’re still undecided about the boxset/ shpongle 4. nothing is confirmed so i can’t put up any news item.
we are aware that keeping it updated with info on the artists is the most important thing, thanks for the reminder.
if no one’s really too bothered about the actual design and features, then we should just have a myspace page i guess? problem solved.

i was hoping just to discuss the new shpongle site and not get bogged down in debating the twisted website on this post.
the shpongle website will be for the band shpongle, not a whole record label including shop etc. so we cant really compare the two.
we proved with the twisted v2 site that no one wants to click too deep into a website to find the info they’re looking for. thats why we decided to have a busy front page with everything people were looking for displayed in one place: latest cd releases, latest news from the label, latest posts from the forum and so on.
the twisted blog is the latest word from twisted records. the news is for main news features including a picture. if we merged the two, the list’ would become too big with all the picures. sometimes we need to just write a couple of lines quickly. that was the idea anyway
