‘Demented’ is the second instalment of Twisted classics, following on from the success of the first compilation ‘Dementertainment’ this second edition takes the music one stage further. A showcase of Twisted’s finest talent ‘Demented’ explores new areas of trance pushing the boundaries of sonic experimentation into the new millennium.

The album starts off with Mi-Loony-Um! A track by label mastermind, Simon Posford (aka Hallucinogen), it was made especially for the millennium and played infront of 6,000 people in South Africa at midnight on New Year’s Eve. The track begins with the sounds of harpsichords and strings and progresses through time to the present day with Simon’s trademark gated kicks and arpeggioÂ’s punctuated by the staccato electronic bleeps and squeaks of modem’s initialising and off into more complex modem melodies.

Next up is an updated version of one of the best tracks from the now legendary ‘Shpongle’ album, D.M.T. This remix gives new life to the familiar aquatised jungle beats and synthesized voices with a double funked up mix for the dancefloor. Trixster is a collaboration between two big names in the trance world Tristan international DJ and creator of the recent Audiodrome (TWSTLP9) LP and Dick Trevor of Green Nuns fame and more recently as a member of Science Department with Danny Howells). This tech-bongo rocker chugs on its steady kick and a set of incredibly funky drum breaks. Dance floor fodder for the connoisseur.

Hallucinogen Beautiful People, opens with a sample from Bill Hicks proclaiming Jesus’ return “I’m back” he is, but he never said what mood he’d be in, this is a fully spangled journey into your psyche-delia.

Tristan returns with Small Paper Squares an expanding progressive groove that swells into warp factor 9 and rides on an electro plateau holding the dance floor in its grip.

Doof reveals the more subtle side of trance with a squelchy sub-bass journey into trance, this hypnotic groover pulses smoothly across the trance floor.

Prometheus on the other hand offers us a tech-breaks session; plenty of industrial electro sounds, focused break downs and clear synth leads.

Younger Brother (Simon Posford & Benji Vaughan) leave the listener with a mellow journey out west, cowboy guitar rifts underpinned by a classic hallucinogen progression swathed in ethereal chants and atmospheres.

Altogether a complete package of exclusive trance gems, from the ecstatic beginnings of Mi-Loomy Um! Through the solid dance floor stonkers from Shpongle, Trixster, and Tristan and off into the ambient worlds of Doof and our Younger Brother.
